Fashions of the Field

Judges will roam the grounds "spotting" their favourite outfits for the annual Qantaslink Fashions on the Field competition. Judges will invite finalists to parade in their finest, having a chance to win fantastic prizes. Keep your eye out for them on the day. Finalist will be called to marshal at the main stage at 2.40pm for an approximate 3.00pm announcement.


Judging criteria will be for the following categories:

  • Contemporary
  • Classic
  • Gentleman
  • Couple
  • Hat
  • Junior

Judging Criteria -

Contemporary Ladies Race wear
:
1.Style and Originality.
2. Appropriateness of outfit for a day at the races. Cocktail and evening wear are not classed as spring race wear.
3. Attention to detail of accessories.
4. Even though the fashion in this category can be more daring it must still represent ladies day wear and be appropriate to the season.
5. Female contestants must have appropriate head wear to compliment their race wear in order to enter.
6.Understanding and interpretation of current fashion trends.
7.Entrants deportment and grooming will be a major consideration in the judges' selection.
8.Underwear showing or as part of an outfit is not correct race attire.           
   
Classic Ladies Race wear:
1. Style and Originality.
2. Appropriateness of outfit for a day at the races.
3. Attention to detail of hat, bag and shoes. Do not have to match in colour but must compliment one another.
4.Exposed shoulders and cleavage are not true Classic Ladies Race wear.
5. Hoisery is not essential however is considered a finishing touch.
6. Appropriate head wear is essential.
7.Consider an outfit that is timeless and elegantly coordinated.
8.Underwear showing or as part of an outfit is not correct race attire.
9.Entrants deportment and grooming will be a major consideration in the judges' selection.

Best Dressed Gentleman:
1. Style and Originality.
2. Appropriateness of outfit for a day at the races.
3. Attention to detail of accessories. Accessories such as cufflinks, lapel flower, hat, and handkerchief should be considered.
4. Jacket and/or tie optional.

Best Dressed Couple:
1. Style and Originality.
2. Appropriateness of outfit for a day at the races.
3. We are not looking for matchy matchy ie. Same coloured tie as the girls dress/hat. We are looking for a couple that compliment each other in a subtle manner and present as a well groomed, elegant, fashionable pair.

The Hat of The Day:
1. Style and design of the millinery (element including originality, concept of the design theme and wearability)
2. Appropriateness of the millinery for the race day and the individual
3. Suitability of the millinery for the climate

Fun and Fashionable Children's race wear:
Prep, Primary and High School Age.
1.Grooming and deportment
2.Appropriateness of the outfit for the person's age, the climate and the race day
3.Style and originality
