Welcome

This festival has been made possible through the Queensland Government’s Blueprint for the Bush – Our Place Our Future initiative. In June 2009, Minister for Primary Industries, Fisheries and Rural and Regional Queensland Tim Mulherin, approved funding for the Central Warrego Race Club Inc to host the Charleville Cup Festival, a new community event which is set to become a major tourist event in Charleville.

“The Our Place Our Future initiative provides rural and remote communities with the resources they need to strengthen their capacity to build a more sustainable future" Mr Mulherin said.

"In today's current economic climate, this investment helps to strengthen and enhance the relationships between rural and urban areas, as well as helping to build the networks and support they need to attract and retain skilled workers.”

The festival kicks off on Saturday night, with a Dinner Under The Stars at the Charleville Golf Club. Starting at 6.30pm, the evening will include a three-course meal and entertainment by Richard Ranson followed by the acclaimed Townsville vocal group “Attori”. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased from the Charleville Golf Club, Modern Mode and Karen Brook Studios.

On Sunday morning, the golf club will again play host to a special fun day sponsored by Charleville bookmakers Peter Alexander and David Power. Starting at 10am, the 9 hole – 2 ball ambrose format will see golfers back at the club house for a BBQ lunch and presentations. Nominations are $10 per person.

Following golf, relax with family in the town hall park at the sunset picnic markets. From 4-8pm there will be food, fashion and jewellery stalls along with beer and wine, kids entertainment and stage music by “Attori”.

Monday will showcase two of Charleville’s well-known attractions - the Cosmos Centre and the Bilbies. Special Cosmos/Bilby shows will be held at the Cosmos Centre, along with free entry to day activities from 3-5pm.  The day will end with the Central Warrego Race Club’s Calcutta night at the RSL. Be sure to come along and watch as the best horses are fought for and bought in an epic auction.

The festival culminates in the fun, fashion and racing of the Central Warrego Race Club’s Charleville Cup Day. The day will include a wearable art fashion show and a new format Fashions of the Field event with Champagne and pre-judging in the following feature categories: contemporary ladies race wear, classic ladies race wear, men’s wear, best dressed couple and best hat. Kye Cole from Brisbane will entertain the crowd into the evening.
